Presented on social media inside the enterprise at a meeting run by the lovely Heather Yaxley at the Motor Industry Public Affairs Association where I gassed on about the role of the employee in spreading the word about their companies on networks both internal and external.
What struck me was the optimism of the audience. I expected anyone involved in cars to be on their knees, beating their breasts and cursing the departed magic touch of Clarkson in their benighted sector.
Not a bit of it. They acknowledged the problems but were realistically enthusiastic about a future for their companies.
The only weird note of the whole event was the 1980s feel of the host's meeting room - TBWA/London. It's churlish of me to begrudge their hospitality but the equipment was antediluvian, the decor out of Life On Mars and the useability of the projector and kit was below that of the Cheshire Building Society's Slocombe on the Mud office (We found just 2 power points in the whole room, and logging on required me to rebuild my motherboard).
Hasn't old-money adland worked out that plasmas, good sound and broadband are the hygiene factors of communications - or do they still use boards for their pitches?
